Frequently asked questions for Leicester Van Hire

These FAQs apply across our extensive range of vehicles and include hiring vans, car transporters, minibuses and motor homes.

What do I need to bring with me to collect my van or vehicle?

You will need to bring your driving licence and proof of fully comprehensive insurance with you. Please ensure both documents are valid and that you are covered to drive your chosen hire vehicle. You will also need to bring two copies of proof of address.

Are there any restrictions in terms of driving the hire van or vehicle outside of the UK?

We believe in flexibility and want to meet all our customers’ needs. This is why we allow our hire vehicles to be driven abroad. Restrictions do apply, however. Please call us on 0116 278 9465 to confirm your eligibility.

When do I have to pick up and drop off my hire vehicle?

We are open Monday to Saturday 7.30am to 6pm, and operate on a 24-hour hiring basis: you can choose the time to collect and drop off. For example, you may want to collect your hire van, minibus, transporter or motor home, as soon as we open at 7.30am and drop off 24-hours later at 7.30am. Or a 5pm to 5pm time may suit you best. Please be aware that the hire vehicle must be returned within the 24-hour period.

What do your prices include?

As well as the vehicle itself, the hire price includes VAT and unlimited mileage.

Is there a minimum age you have to be to hire a van or vehicle?

Yes, you must be aged 21 or over and have held your driving licence for a minimum of twelve months.

Can I add an extra driver so that I can share the driving?

Yes you can. You will need to bring all the necessary documents with you at the time of collection: driving licences and fully comprehensive insurance cover for all drivers. Additional drivers are free if they have their own fully comprehensive insurance.

If I don’t have fully comprehensive insurance, can I still hire from you?

Yes you can but you will need to take out extra insurance with us. Please call us on 0116 278 9465 to discuss this further.

Is fuel included in the cost?

No. Each van and vehicle hired from us comes with a full tank of diesel as standard and you need to return the van with a full tank.

If I book a Ford Transit SWB with you but then realise I need the LWB, would there be an admin cost to pay to make this change?

No. We understand that your needs may change and you can amend your booking accordingly at no extra cost. Please just be aware that the change of van would be subject to availability and we could not guarantee it would be available for hire at short notice.

I have never driven a van/ transporter/ minibus/ Luton/ motor home before. Does that matter?

Not at all. Our friendly and experienced staff are always happy to help. Simply ask us when you come to pick your vehicle up and our staff will run through the main points of driving your van/ transporter/ minibus/ motor home. We will also offer advice in terms of planning your route and being aware of the height and width of your van or vehicle. I have a long journey planned; will I have to pay extra for the mileage?

No, with us you can travel as far as you like. We offer unlimited mileage on all our vehicles.

Do I have to clean the vehicle before returning it?

No, all we ask is that you return it a similar condition to how you found it. However, please be considerate with rubbish etc and should your van get particularly dirty on your journey, a clean would be appreciated!

I can’t find the van I am looking for on your website, can you help?

Yes, we can. As well as the vans and vehicles featured on our website, we have extensive trade contacts which allow us to offer more should a customer request it. Contact us today on 0116 278 9465 and we will happily provide you with a bespoke quote.

Do I have to book online? And if I don’t book online, do I have to pay more?

No and no. Our prices remain the same whether you choose to book online or over the telephone. We are flexible to your needs and want to make hiring a van or vehicle as simple as possible. Some people prefer to book online, others via the telephone – you can book how you want to book.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

To ensure we can provide the right vans and vehicles to the right people, we do ask for a deposit, yes. However, this will deducted from your final costs at the point of returning your vehicle. We have made deposits straightforward and ask for £150, regardless of your hire choice, payable at the point of booking. Should you have any queries on this, please call us on 0116 278 9465.

Do your vehicles take petrol or diesel?

All our vehicles take diesel.

What happens if I break down in my hire van?

All our vans and vehicles are fully checked before you hire them. However, in the unlikely event of a vehicle break down, all our vans and vehicles come with a tool kit as standard. This includes a spare tyre and jack.

I have hired from you before, am I entitled to a discount?

We are a locally run business, dedicated to meeting your van hire needs, so yes. We run a loyalty scheme, so the more you hire from us the bigger discount you will receive. Call us on 0116 278 9465 to find out more about our loyalty scheme.

I need to hire a van for business purposes, do I have to have Leicester Van Hire branding on the side?

No you don’t. We want to offer you the best hire service possible and if you would prefer to have a plain sided van, we can arrange that. Just ask us and we will deliver.
